I want to know if it is legal for a Landlord to leave a single sheet of paper folded in half on my door rolled up and placed in between my knob and frame with my personal information which is my apartment number with my current balance owed. I find it to be very unprofessional. I feel it should at least be in a sealed envelope

It's legal, in that there is nothing in the NJ landlord tenant statutes that prohibits it.

Where there are statutes cited you can look them up online.

If the notice was put there as a result of you being late on your rent, well, the cure for that is pay your rent on or before the due date.

By the way, many types of legal (and embarrassing) notices are left on doors without being put in envelopes. Also perfectly legal.

Be glad your landlord didn't tape a large pink or orange notice to your door with this information.

Many landlords do this when a tenant owes rent.

Your landlord probably thinks it's very unprofessional to be behind with your rent.

If you stay up to date with your rent this is not something you will have to worry about again.
