We have a lease agreement with our tenant through January 31, 2009. We are in escrow to sell the property. Our escrow is scheduled to close after January 31, 2009. We are honoring our lease agreement through 01/31/09. We are not asking the tenant to leave prior to 01/31/09. We have notified the tenant we will not be renewing the lease. Our tenant is upset and wants some type of compensation even though the tenant has no plans to vacate prior to the lease termination date. Is our tenant nuts? I have never had this request before. Is there some sort of tenant rights law in Ventura County that entitles the tenant some type of compensation if we sell the property and do not renew the lease? Thank you in advance for your help.
