Termination of Lease after fire

I live in a 3 unit bulding and we recently had a fire on the roof. As a result, we all had to leave the building. The property manager said he wants to do some repairs to the ceiling but other than that, its in pretty good shape. The only unit that needs more extensive work is the 3rd unit. I called the realty company to find out when I can move back in and they informed me that the leases have been terminated and that they will refund us back our money and would then have to find a new place. Can they do this?

If the apartments are uninhabitable then you don't really have a choice. Do you think the leases were terminated for other reasons?
