Ok, when we first moved into the house we are renting, the wife of our neighbor totally ignored us. He would be friendly. They have a 10 yr old son, we have an 8 yr old son. The 2 boys would play together. No problem. The holidays came and the wife would put up a fence like decoration around her yard directly on top of our driveway. If we were in the passager side of the vehicle, we could not open the door or risk breaking her decorations. I spoke to the husband about it and asked if there was a problem since she would never talk to us etc. He said oh no, everything is ok. For about 2-3 weeks everything was great. They were borrowing eggs, etc.. Then Thanksgiving came. The 2 boys got into a scuffle.. Boys will be boys. My husband went over to make sure everything was ok and was told 'we have repeatedly told you and your son the 2 boys could not play together.' We were NEVER told this. Their son knocked on OUR door! Then they said 'we have NEVER had neighbors nor do we want any'. Ok, we left them alone. The city was called on us for my husband's trailer. It was parked on the side of our house with only the hitch sticking out. Ok, we moved it. We have a house cat that got out once and they called the city stating it roams constantly. The husband stares me down everytime he sees me. IT is intimadating. I decided, I am not going to let him get to me and ruin my day so yesterday I yelled HEY THERE! How are you today? He was definitely shocked but smiled and responded. We had a nice laugh together. THis morning, he approached my husband and told him we are harassing them and it has to stop. He accused my son of throwing cake in their yard and on their cars... umm no that did not happen.. and a lot of other things. My husband said since when does saying hello mean harassment? It became quite heated and ended with the wife cussing my husband out and my husband just shaking his head and walking away.

So I feel that I need to protect myself and my family. What are my rights and what can I do?

A: Your rights about what?

You are renting the property... Seniorjudge is right - what type of rights are you trying to claim? If I were you, I would try to avoid contact with these neighbors and ask your child to do the same. If things just don't improve, then consider moving if it bothers you and your family so much.
