texas deposit

I am in Texas. I moved out of my apartment on the 2nd of Feb this year and I have yet to receive my deposit back or an itemized list of what I was charged for and/or why my deposit is being kept. I spoke with someone at the apartment complex and they stated that I had a pet and that the carpet had to get pet shampoo. Is this a reason to hold up a deposit? and if not do I have a small claims case here?

Send a certified return receipt letter demanding back your deposit and that the company's failure to do so was in violation of your lease agreement. Cite the section of your lease. If you cannot receive back the deposit within 14 days from the date of the letter, you will be filing a claim in small claims court to obtain that amount plus interest and any and all applicable damages. Landlords are unfortunately notorious for not returning rental deposits.
