I and my wife reside in Texas, have so since 1995. I am 54 years old. My father, who resided in Honolulu since 1965 passed away in April of 08. My mother, to which my fathers estate passed to just passed away 1/1/09. My brother, residing in Hawaii still who is the trustee of the family estate has suggested we check on Texas Interitance laws, and or paying, or reducing, or even eliminated the taxes that might be applicable in receiving a portion of the estate that might be available fairly quickly.

We, my wife and I own a home in Texas, and land in Alabama. We currently owe the IRS some back taxes as well.

What is the best advice to minimize the taxes against receipt of a part of the Burlingame Estate that might quickly be made available to the 4 surviving brothers, myself included. Thank you.

Your brother should be the one looking into this since, as executor, he will be responsible for paying the estate taxes. If you want to act on his behalf, you should contact a Texas estates lawyer for advice. It would be impossible to give good advice in this forum.
