The presidential pardon

Hi all. I'm sure you've all heard about the pardon that shook the world. Statement from President Joe Biden | The White House

This will certainly be a divisive topic. I posted it in the General Chat section and news because of the magnitude. But let's please be civil, keep our composure, be respective, and not engage in excessive dumping on Democrats en masse, etc.

The pardon may even be worse than I thought. He was pardone for all crimes he may have committed and not charged for an entire decade. If this doesn't make a mockery of our justice system, I don't know what does.

For those offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024, including but not limited to all offenses charged or prosecuted

Anyway... please, please, please no victory laps, dumping on Democrats, etc. This speaks for itself. Let's remember that we're still all about upholding the goals of our justice system and this is just an abominable abberation that doesn't change where it should be.

As much as the current Republican party makes me throw up, this pardon further shows that politicians will be politicians.

I'm not surprised.
I don't see this as a donkey or elephant issue.

Biden is approaching death's door.

He may not fully comprehend everything, but I suspect he's driven by protecting, as in assisting his son.

No need to do a happy dance, as I've often said, life humbles the mighty.

Fate cares not what others think of you, as fate's only function is humble, humiliate, and bring to heel the haughty, the high and mighty.

Biden had to say the right words, knowing in his heart, that real dads and moms don't leave their offspring hanging!

WASHINGTON — Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter Sunday night, a reversal for the president, who repeatedly said he would not use his executive authority to pardon his son or commute his sentence.

"I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice — and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision," Biden said in his statement.

Hunter Biden was scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 12 for his conviction on federal gun charges. He also was set to be sentenced on Dec. 16 in a separate criminal case in which he pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion charges in September.

The president issued a "full and unconditional pardon" for any offenses Hunter Biden has "committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024," according to the White House statement.

A senior White House official told NBC News, which was the first to report on the pardon decision, that the president decided over the weekend to grant his son a pardon and began to inform his senior aides Sunday.

Hmmm, the fly in the buttermilk here reveals a gross indifference in the way the Donkey In Command sicced his attack dogs on a former president, yet fails to acknowledge the blowback his actions created toward one of his issue.

Man continues to demand fair treatment for himself/herself and his/her kin, while eagerly doing to others, that which he/she whines about when it happens to her/him and her/his kin.

And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

(AP) - Full written statement from President Joe Biden on his decision to pardon his son:
Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter. From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted. Without aggravating factors like use in a crime, multiple purchases, or buying a weapon as a straw purchaser, people are almost never brought to trial on felony charges solely for how they filled out a gun form. Those who were late paying their taxes because of serious addictions, but paid them back subsequently with interest and penalties, are typically given non-criminal resolutions. It is clear that Hunter was treated differently.

The charges in his cases came about only after several of my political opponents in Congress instigated them to attack me and oppose my election. Then, a carefully negotiated plea deal, agreed to by the Department of Justice, unraveled in the court room – with a number of my political opponents in Congress taking credit for bringing political pressure on the process. Had the plea deal held, it would have been a fair, reasonable resolution of Hunter's cases.

No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong. There has been an effort to break Hunter – who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to break Hunter, they've tried to break me – and there's no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough.

For my entire career I have followed a simple principle: just tell the American people the truth. They'll be fair-minded. Here's the truth: I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice – and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision.
