A couple days ago I was ACCUSED with a friend stealing and the total was about 20$ so we were both charged with theft >500. We were then taking to jail and released and a $1500 bond. Basically I don't want this to be on my record because it is a crime of moral turpitude and it will be hard to get a job. This is my first time being accused of anything criminal and honestly my first time arrested. The cop told me I would be probably be able to get a diversion because of this.
Now what i was wondering will i be able to get a diversion if i go to my court date and say guilty? Or will i need to find an attorney to be able to qualify to do this? And since i don't really have any money would i be able to get a public defender or would that be worth it? I just don't want this to effect my future of finding a job or anything with the charge of theft on my record. Also if i get an attorney how much would they normally charge, and would I still be able to get it all done in 1 court date with a lawyer or would i end up going into trial? Cause i may need to find some stuff to start selling quick.

I'm asking a lot of questions to i just want to be able to get through this with the best outcome i can. I also don't want to have to spend money on a lawyer if it is not needed or would just be a waste of time.

A public defender won't cost you anything if you qualify.
If you don't want things like this on your record then you should not commit the crimes. It is too late to worry about consequences after the fact.
Do not plead guilty. Request a public defender and let your attorney handle everything.
You will likely be able to get diversion.

You do want an attorney. If you can't afford one, the court will appoint one for you. An attorney should be able to get you the best outcome possible.

Plead not guilty.

Yes ACD or diversion should protect your record as you want providing your county has such a program. Do not plead guilty or Judge will sentence you right then and you may not get diversion. Plead not guilty and request public defender. Judge will give you new court date and instruct you how to contact the public defenders office. In mean time start consulting Attorneys, many offer free consultations, so you know what legal options you have. The public defender will spend very little time with you so you need to do a lot of the footwork if you want to make wise choices
