6 months ago i was charged with theft by receiving stolen property. here the story:

i came home for lunch one afternoon to find my apartment hadbeen broken into. i immedietely called 911. the officers came out questioned, fingerprinted the whole nine. they asked what do we know of was stolen i said 3 tvs. 1 28in flat screen, one 32in lat screen and one 50 in flat screen. i told the office that i had an idea who took my property. by this time my roommate comes home and the officers let me return to work. a few hours later i come back home and the officers were questioning the people that i thought may have taken our property. the officerscome back to me asking question like how long have i had the 50 in and where did i get it. i thought the information was irrelavent so i told the officers i had it for close to a year and i bought the tv off craigslist. but in actuality i bought the tv from a guy in my complex a few moths back. the guy seemed cool he said he was short on rent so i bought the 50in for $400. well after running the serial numbers come to find out the tv was reported stolen from someone that lives in the complex a few months prior to the incident. now i look like i had something to do with the robbery because the stories didnt match up. but if i were to have anything to do with the robbery or if i knew the tv was stolen.. why would i call 911?

can someone please help me with my situation? am i looking at jail time or what are my possible consqences?

oh yeah i forgot to mention that the tv was valued more than $500. in the state of georgia.. thats a felony.

Time to clam up and speak to an attorney.

They have you in one lie - saying you bought it on Craigslist when you bought it from a neighbor - and that just tanked your credibility on anything you have to say. That statement alone can be used to imply some guilt.

Consult legal counsel ASAP.

As you describe it, you certainly did commit a criminal offense.
The theory here is that even if you did not know the tv was stolen you SHOULD have known.
Nobody sells a 50" tv for $400.
When you lied about where you got the tv you pretty much gave them evidence against you that you suspected something was fishy about the sale.
You need to lawyer up. It sounds like they have a solid case against you.
