Hey!

So i recently did something really stupid. I was with a friend and he suggested to take a political sign off someones lawn, the sign probably costs around 5-10 dollars. So i was driving the car we were both in, and he took the sign off and i drove off, i didnt touch the sign at all i just drove. The homeowner caught us and called the cops. We both got a court date and stuff. Im worried if we would go to jail for this? We were both charged with theft, but the officer told me that my friend the one who took the sign was the one charged with theft, but since i drove him i got the charges as well. Like what would be our penalty for this? I really dont want to go to jail over a sign im in college and i got a good job. This is my first offense ever. Please help....

You're an accessory. Just as if you drove the getaway car for a bank heist.

Probably not. But you still won't be happy with the results.

Probably a fine, probation, community service and A CRIMINAL RECORD. TaDa.

Get yourself a lawyer, no matter what it costs. Don't talk about this to ANYBODY. Not your friend, not your family, not the cops, not the prosecutor, nobody.

A lawyer MIGHT be able to get you out from under this without A CRIMINAL RECORD.

Agree, talk to a lawyer & only the lawyer. If you can't afford one, when you go to court plead not guilty & ask for a public defender. (a PD is a lawyer) You can discuss your options with the lawyer/PD.

I am always bemused at the definition many people apply to "free speech".
Sure, voice your opinion as long as you agree with me.
Free speech was never an issue for me.
I support everyone's right to express their opinion.
If I agree or disagree with it, I'm always free NOT to listen.
Agree or disagree, I'd never attempt to silence anyone's opinions, because its easier to walk away (or use a good pair of nose reduction headphones - amazing devices, by the way).
