About five months back I was terminated from my place of employment. I was told that I was banned from the store. That company has a picnic every year. My girlfriend is currently working at the location and when she requested two tickets for us to attend, she was told that if I were to set foot at the picnic that I would be arrested on the spot and she would be wrote up for insubordination and possible terminated. My two questions are: Can I be banned from a store verbally? Can I be arrested for attending this picnic?

Yes, you can be banned from the store. Doesn't matter if it was verbal or not.

You can be arrested for trespassing, yes. Going where you've been told not to go is trespassing.

Where is the picnic? If it is on private property under the control of the store, then they can almost certainly prevent you from going. But, if the picnic is at a public park, and you are not causing a disturbance of any kind, then the odds are slim they could make a case against you unless your jurisdiction allows the company to somehow completely and totally control the venue for the event.

Good point, Carl - I was only thinking about private property.
"Picnic" has me thinking outdoor event, but "tickets" has me thinking it is a private venue unless these are meal tickets or raffle tickets o some kind. But, if the company is big enough, they may have a green belt to use for this. Who knows?
