I'm wondering if anyone can help me out here and answer a question or two. I have a friend who was sentanced to 13 months in Florida DOC. They have a clean record, female and the charges were for grand theft and fraud. So it wasen't a violent crime. My question is, how long do they really have to serve if they are a model prisoner? I have been told as little as 90 days and as long as 8 months. Please help me out here if you can. Thank you in advance for your help. I was told there are many factors in figuring the math and don't know who figures the math out. I was told they take into consideration the severity of the crime, your prior record, family history and etc. Any truth in this?

This varies all over the place.

The only person who can give you an honest answer is the Sherriff. you'd be surprised, but most sheriffs are open to talk about such things, they are, after all, politicians as well as police.

GOOD LUCK!

For example, same LA jail, famous cases where Paris Hilton served a few weeks, other celebrities on the same exact charge served less than a day, etc.

Prior record is the most important.First offenders usually get released at the minimum time. Check your state laws to see when a prisoner is eligible for parole. It can get complicated. Number of prisoners in the system can also effect the time. Conduct of the inmate, statements by any victims at the parole hearing all

time comp

There is a department within DOC that is often called time comp. They are the ones who compute the amount of time an inmate serves. It is dependent on so many things including the law that dictates how much of a sentence an inmate must serve like 50% or 65% etc. Then the inmate's record of behavior is added. It is too often complex and confusing, done, I believe, to add to the helpless feeling. Florida does have certain laws and you can find out by calling the jail or DOC central office and asking for the correct dept. My best advice is to NEVER give up. The system is designed to discourage so that you finally give up and go away. Good luck.

/DOC is designed to confuse and discourage. There is usually a dept called time comp that computes release dates. Try to call that dept. Don't give up. That is the general objective so keep trying until you get your answer. Also in some DOCs, email is the best way to communicate. Good luck
