I was recently living in an upstairs flat and my landlords lived underneath us, my landlords decided to buy the house behind this one and offer us to move into the downstairs apartment. We jumped on the opportunity and the move in date was 2/1/09. However, they got a tenant to fill the upstairs apartment to move in on 2/2/09. The landlords were not completely out of the downstairs apartment until 11:00 AM on 2/1/09 so thats when we started to move in but we had to be out by 2/2/09 because there was someone filling our apartment on 2/2/09. I am just curious as to whether it was legal for the landlords to only give us from 11:00 AM on 2/1/09 to move out of our apartment by 2/2/09? Isn't there some kind of hour requirement that they should give you to be out by? 48 or 72 hours to completely move out?

There is no such law. You guys are only moving from the top floor apartment to the bottom one; not even to another building.
