Totally lost and confused(death in fam no will)

My mother recently passed, there was no will in place. She had financed a vehicle and had a policy which would cover the balance of the debt on vehicle if she passed. The Insurance company has yet to make a payment to the finance company and the vehicle was repossed. What do I do?? The finance company won't give me any details because I don't have doc's stating I am the executor of the estate? What is and how do I become executor? I have been sending copies of her death certificate to her bill collectors and don't know what else to do or who to go to. She rented an apartment and her bank accounts have been overdrafted by some automatic payments she had in place so no funds in her account and a life insurance policy through her job/union she was a part of this and the car remain to be dealt with. Any info or help??

Hire a lawyer who specializes in probate. Read the Probate Process...this is just what I found with a quick google search and do not endorse the lawyers. Google more info for yourself but this may get you started in understanding the process:
