I no longer work for the production company that I was working at. They would continually change my job title, and at a certain point I was called a "writer". I never signed anything as part of my employment that said they have rights to ideas, concepts or scripts that I generate. Last year, while still working for the company, I SOLD them a script and they gave me a contract to purchase it (they have yet to pay me).
I left the company and there is another screenplay I had written during the time I was employed there that they assume they now own. I have not signed a contract, I personally have the script registered, and they have never seen nor could ever produce a physical copy of the actual script.
How do I move ahead with the script somewhere else without the old company trying to sue me? What do I have to do to tell them this is mine, not yours? With the registration and the presidence of purchasing the last script through a contract, I can't see how they can lay claim to it.
I know this is a messy situation, but any advice would be greatly appreciated
