Traffic lanes unmarked

I have a vague memory of someone telling me that a motorcycle can split lanes legally because of the idea that "if there is room for a lane, there is a lane, whether marked or not". My question is whether this idea can be applied to cars as well.

Cars may not apply lanes, and motorcycles may only do so at slow speeds in the two left most lanes if I remember correctly.
No, the concept does not carry over as you suggest. Don't create lanes that don't exist. Even if they are not marked I suspect you know where the lanes are.
