I need some advice really bad...about 5 years ago I contacted the DMV and asked them to pull up any tickets I had so I could pay them and get my license reinstated. They gave me a list...I paid the tickets and got my license reinstated. I've had my license for 5 years now with no further traffic violations, I just recently got a ticket on December 30, 2007 and took care of it, when my license was ran nothing came up on it. I got another ticket on march 24, 2008 and when my license was ran, 4 warrants popped up from 10 years ago, I was taken to jail, and recently got bailed out to find out what was going on. I went to two of my court dates already and the judges are trying to make me pay the fines and do jail time, despite of what I told him happened. Why am I being punished for something I tried to take care of 5 years ago? Why didn't these 4 warrants pop up them...it doesn't make sense, I already tried to take care of these warrants. The DMV says they have no record of these warrants and said my record is clean and if I had any warrants they would have not issued me a drivers license. I can understand having to pay the fines, but is jail time absolutely necessary? It's not my fault these warrants didn't show up 5 years ago when I tried to resolve all my ticket problems...what can I do? Can someone please help me! I don't want to go back to jail..my life will be ruined! Please help me...please!

Q: Why am I being punished for something I tried to take care of 5 years ago?

A: Because you did not take care of them.

Hmmmm......maybe you didn't understand me...I said...I TRIED taking care of them 5 years ago...I contacted the DMV and asked them to pull up all my tickets so I could pay them...so it's not like I was not trying to pay them or take care of them. Had these tickets showed up in the system 5 years ago...they would have been paid.

the dmv makes a lot of mistakes. i moved recently and changed my address at the dmv and they sent a notice of suspension to my old address. i ended up getting pulled over and getting a grip load of fines and my car towed. if the dmv makes a mistake, then prove it to the court and any fines or charges will get dropped.

Trying to take care of them and taking care of them are two different things.

I agree: DMV makes lots of mistakes. This time, make sure they are taken care of.

You may have a SOL argument here. You will have to look that up. After 10 years, the statute of limitations may very well be expired.

On the other hand, it could be once you are charged, there is no SOL. You will have to look it up for the state this is going on in.

Not getting tickets cleared up is problem in Texas

Not being able to get tickets cleared up is problem in Texas and they don't seem to care. The ones I have been trying to clear up don't go back that far but it is difficult to to find them all. Central data bank would be helpful.

One problem for females that have been married, divorced, etc is finding the tickets under the right name. If you name is Smith I am not sure what you do. Big thing is keep records and copies of tickets even if you can't pay at the time. Keep all reference numbers, Ticket #, Docket # Case # because they may be reference dunder any of them depending where the correspondence is coming from.

It is best to pay and keep up up. Your life can be a lot simpler. Of course best not to get them at all. Take safe driving courses when you are eligible.
