Sadly, this happens more than it is reported.
Alas, the state is the sovereign. As the sovereign, it cloaks itself in an almost impenetrable web of laws making what you seek, nearly impossible.

But, why not speak with the lawyer who represented your son to see if any civil remedies exist?

I won't bore you with them here, your lawyer knows the facts in your case. He or she is in the best position to tell you if a civil suit could be pursued.

Is there any compensation when you have been falsely accused of a crime once you have been cleared? My son was arrested and kept for 3 days and then booked for accessory to aggravated robbery of an individual. He was accused of being present when someone stole $175.00 and a bicycle using a hammer and/or a knife.

We have now spent $5000.00 for an attorney and $3000.00 for the bail not to mention his lost job for missing work and having the police go to his job with questions about him while he was in jail. Can we recover any of this once he is cleared?
