I had a charge for theft by check the check was $80.00. I paid the fine in hopes to get a court date to have this dismissed as I was unaware of the check. I paid the fine and was advised to turn my self in as there was a warrant issued for my arrest. The girl advised me since this has happened in order for me to get a court date I had to turn myself in. I went to court and the charge was dismissed but the arrest was not removed. Is there a way I can get the arrest expunged on my own or do I have to get a lawyer? This arrest is holding me back from getting me a job which I am not sure why because they ask if you were convicted not charged and I wasn't convicted but, I was unable to start work.

You were not convicted of anything.
You were merely arrested.
Arrest records are not discoverable under MOST circumstances.
In fact, it is illegal to ask if you've been arrested, in MOST cases.

From what you've said, you can honestly answer "NO" to any question about convictions.
You do not have to answer any question about whether you've been arrested.
You shouldn't be asked about arrests (in most cases).
Some law enforcement and government jobs can inquire about arrests.

Getting an arrest removed form your record, is somewhat problematic in Texas.
DPS is the keeper of all Texas arrest records.
There are also records at the city and/or county level, in some cases.
You can speak with a lawyer about having the arrest record removed.
It is an expensive and lengthy process.
I don't think the arrest is your problem, however.
Please, read some more of my analysis.

I don't think the arrest is the reason you didn't get the job.
The bad check might be showing in some of the check approval databases.
Some employers (especially if the job involves money) will use those databases.
If your name turns up in one of them, you won't be hired.
Just as some employers use your credit worthiness to deny you a job.
There could be other reasons than you suppose that are thwarting your job seeking efforts.

Thanks very much for your feedback. This could be the case as the job was with a bank in their corp office

Hey, you're welcome.
I wish you luck in your job hunt.
Just hang in there, and keep looking.
We need to get everyone that wants to work, back to work.
Bon chance!
