I worked for a family taking care of two small children and two teenagers. I also cleaned, cooked, and did all the grocery shopping and cloths shopping for the youngest children. I was given my bosses company credit card (her father owns the company) and a child support card for the younger children (she's their grandmother but has custody). I was told to use the c/s card first if funds were available if not use the credit card. Our agreement was that she would pay for gas for my vehicle since it was used for her errands. I also drove her teenage daughter to school the mall you name it. Anyway after more than a year I quit my own family was going to hell because I spent so much time with hers I even cooked her holiday meals and for her parties. Doctors appts took the girls to see their mother. Cared for the youngest after surgery. I even watched the kids while she vacationed in Florida on numerous occasions. Needless to say she was mad when I quit even though I found my own replacement but my replacement is not willing to do what I did. Now she's saying I used her cc and the c/s card without permission I was even asked to come in to the police station for questioning. I'm a nervous wreck I went in and answered all the questions and was asked to make a statement and bring it back in and try and remember what days I used the cards where. "I did my best but running 2 households and having 2 sick daughters I can hardly remember yesterday. I'm afraid at any point i'm going to be arrested she's claiming almost 4,000 of transactions all of which were for her house. I turned over all reciepts as I used the cards she is now claiming I didn't I have no proof that I did. It was her card why would I make copies of her reciepts. I worked for cash from her and she won't even pay what she owed when I quit. Which is fine I'll take that loss but I did nothing wrong am I going to end up in jail? The only personal charges were 3 for gas I only billed her 3 times in over a year. But she said too

You should contact a lawyer immediately.
You have already committed a NO-NO, by talking to the police without benefit of counsel.
If you can't afford a lawyer, politely refuse to say anything further to the police, without benefit of counsel.
No lawyer worth his or her salt, would advise you to speak with the police about anything, anyway!
If you are arrested, give NO STATEMENT, plead innocent, and ask for a court appointed lawyer.
For your own sake, make a journal of everything that has happened so far.
Document, as best you can recall, dates, times, names, places, etc...
If you were paid under the table, you should report this immediately to the IRS.
You were entitled to have social security deducted from your wages and paid on your behalf.
Federal, state, and municipal taxes should have been deducted from your wages.
The various taxing authorities would welcome information about tax cheats, such as employed you.
Bottom line, STOP TALKING.
You will NEVER talk yourself out of trouble, only into it!

Thanks for the advice Amy. I have never been in trouble before and just assumed that when the police said come in we need to talk you went. A friend who is an officer asked me if I was read my rights at any point and i was not I told him he told me if I get a lawyer to make sure I told him that. I was paid under the table and she sent me a text telling me she was turning me in. I just assumed I would get in trouble I had no idea she could too. I don't have a lawyer nor the funds to get one as I was to late in quitting to save my family. We are in the process of seperating and with her telling the world i'm a thief I can't imagine getting a new jobs going to be easy. I have always been a stay at home mom who picked up the occasional job housekeeping to make ends meet. This last job I took to help offset some of the cost of my youngest daughters meds. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and the supplies can get pricey. I will not be taking on anymore under the table jobs my friend tells me i'm only hurting myself when it comes time to collect ss.But I got it no more talking

Don't worry too much. Your story makes sense and hers does not. You were using the card for a year and she just now happened to notice it? This is a civil issue and the police will realize it. Getting an attorney would not be a bad idea though.

Retaining your own attorney is NEVER a bad idea!

People are sitting in prison cells today, that thought they didn't need an attorney!

Your signature says it best: If you think a Lawyer is expensive, wait until you have to fix what you did yourself!!!
