I was standing in parking garage with friends with a beer in my hand, but was not drinking it. I given a "ticket" for littering, having an open container of beer, and underage possession. On the ticket it is listed as a "violation," not a misdemeanor or felony. The officer said that as long as I appeared on the court date, I could just pay a fine and it would not be added to my record.
This happened in Tompkins County, New York. I am 18 years old and I was not breathalyzed or charged with intoxication. In addition, I was very polite and was only told to appear in court, not arrested or anything.
Is it true that this will not appear on my record as long as I pay the fine set by the judge?
Thank you.
