i was recently fired because my employer decided to instate a new policy in which employees were no longer allowed to wear ANY facial piercings. the policy stated that not even clear bars would be allowed. before this, piercings were allowed as long as they were kept small or clear.
i refused to take out my lip piercing, stating that i would wear a clear bar if necessary, and he fired me. i know that this is not wrong on a normal basis, but every other girl who works there has a nose piercing, and when they refused to take their piercings out, he let them keep theirs in and keep their job.
could i make a case against my employer for discrimination/wrongful termination?

What you describe is unfair and discriminatory.

But not illegal.

Yes, even though.

First of all, he can have a policy that permits nose piercings and not lip piercings. Piercings are not protected under the law so it's not illegal discrimination.

Second, a wrongful termination means that a specific law prohibits an employer from firing you for the reason they did. There is no law that says you can't be fired for having a piercing so it's not an illegal termination.

Finally, unless the policy is itself mandated by law (which is not the case here) the employer is not obligated to adhere to company policy.
