I was recently terminated by an employer. An event occurred which caused a loss of production for 10 hours which I was blamed 100% for. The termination stemmed from running out of fuel for the boilers and curtailing production. The primary manager for the area did not was not held accountable, nor were the operators who do daily inventory checks on the fuel levels and never informed anybody they were getting low. As a Purchaing Manager responsible for ordering the fuel I was made what I feel was the scapegoat for the occurence. I tried to get oil into the facility, however due to trucking restraints was not able to do so in time enough to avoid an interuption.
Prior to this incident I had made it known to the President of the company and the Vice Chairman of the board that I was being overloaded with work. However, the executive Vice President at the mill decided the incident was "unrecoverable" and terminated my employment.
My employment record at the mill was clean. There were no negatives in my records nor was there any form of progressive discipline in this case.
All my co-workers feel I was unjustly terminated and that ther should have been shared responsibility with the employees directly involved with the use of the fuel.
Please advise on your thoughts as to whether or not I was treated legally and if there are any options I should pursue to correct this injustice.
Thank You.
