I will try to make this as to the point as possible...
April 9th I was notified that my terminal was closing and I and some others were being laid off. I was the Service Center Manager for that terminal. All equip. & Freight was being transfered over to our other terminal which had a Svc. Center Manager who was also the Regional Manager.
During that 3wk period I was to shut the terminal down, and offer support to others who were getting laid off. In exchange I got to be there that 3wks & look for a job. There was also a consultant there who they had put on a few months prior.
On 4/30 I got the call that it looked like everything was wrapped up, and that this would be my final day although they would pay me for the whole week (5/2).
I just found out that on 5/2 a memo was distributed to all that there had been an organizational change, and the consultant was hired to be the new terminal manager at the other facility (13 miles away) and that the Regional Manager/Svc Manager would now solely focus on being the regional manager.
When I was given the notice, I was told that I was a great manager, it wasn't me, they had to downsize or risk loosing the entire company. I was like the Captain going down with the ship, and continued a exemplary attitude till the end.
Svc. Center Manager/Terminal Manager are the same thing. In my offer letter they stated my title was the Terminal Manager. How can they hire someone on the same day they lay me off???? This is in California. I appreciate any help.
