I have a friend that works in the oil field and he went out of town working for a independent contractor and the contractor is now refusing to pay the money per he agreed on. Can my friend hold on to his property until he pays him what's old

If your friend holds on to property belonging to someone other than himself, he might find himself accused of theft.

As far as him being paid correctly, if he's a contractor, he'll have to sue to get paid. If he's an employee, he might be able to get the state involved.

Either way, his best bet is to have a chat with an OK lawyer.
