My lease expires May 31, 2008. I gave notice to modify my lease renewal in writing May 29, 2008 and May 31, 2008 notarized. I gave this written notice in person to leasing office.
 
Usually changes in the lease need to be notified, at a minimum, 30 days prior to the lease expiration. You having the lease dated and notarized on the day of expiration does not free you from any fees or release you from the lease obligations.
In the future, read your lease agreement in detail. Good Luck!
