Naturalization, Citizenship US citizen trying to immigrate to Canada

I was born in the US and still live there. I am interested in immigrating to Calgary, AB in December. My boyfriend is Canadian and currently lives and works there. I am trying to apply for jobs, but have not yet had any offers. I have 2-3 years work experience and will have my Masters Degree complete in December. I am 23 yrs old. Can you tell me my options for immigrating to Calgary? I looked at the skilled professional visa and scored high enough to obtain the visa without an employee offer. Should I start the paperwork now and continue to look for a job? I have seen things about Visitors Visas and work permits. We plan to get engaged soon...will that change or help with getting a visa. We plan to stay in Canada at least 1 year if not more, but may come back to the US after getting married. I appreciate any advice. I just want to see if I will have enough time (about 5 months til I want to move there) to obtain a visa. Thank you.

It sounds to me like you're probably better off thinking about where you want to live permanently and applying for a work permit to work temporarily in Canada.
