US Supreme Court reins in rogue lower court federal judges.

"Democrats and their rogue, activist, lower-court federal judges received a historic smackdown from the Supreme Court, which ruled 6-3 that those lower-court judges lack the power to issue the kind of nationwide injunctions they have consistently used in order to undermine Trump's agenda."
"Lower courts should carefully heed this Court's guidance and cabin their grants of injunctive relief in light of historical equitable limits. If they cannot do so, this Court will continue to be 'dutybound' to intervene," Thomas concluded.

Both conservative and liberal federal district court judges have over the years issued rulings and orders that extend beyond the geographical jurisdiction of the court, including issuing sweeping nationwide injunctions and have agreed to hear cases that are more properly brought to another court (i.e. they encourage litigants to engage in the worst forms of forum shopping, a favorite tactic of some Republicans).

Trial court judges, both federal and state, need to remember that their role is to resolve the controversy between the the parties before the them and resist the urge to go beyond that to affect persons and companies that are litigants in the case. They are not legislators whose job it is to fashion the law for the public at large. Their job doesn't include restraining executive or legislative actions that they merely dislike or find personally outrageous or offensive.

Most judges I've met have, for the most part, understood the role they play in our system of government and the limits on their own authority. Sadly, though, that's not the case for all of them.

The most egregious judges who regularly engage in practices contrary to the role of the judiciary in the federal courts ought to be impeached and removed from office. Similarly, judges in state courts who act in a like fashion ought to be removed from office by whatever means that state's law provides.
