Using Company Card for Personal Emergencies

is it legal to use a company card for personal emergencies, with the intention of reimbursing the company? or is it ALWAYS wrong to use a company card for anything other than legitimate business purchases? I am getting conflicting info on this; so wanted clarification. also is there any time limits on reimbursing a company, once a purchase has been made?

Using the card for non-work purposes will very often and very rapidly make you unemployed - and unable to collect UI.

it is legal in the sense that there is no law expressly prohibiting it. Since no law expressly states that you cannot use a company credit card for personal business, you can as far as the law is concerned. After all, the employer *could* give you permission to use it if they choose to.

However, it is also legal for the employer to prohibit from you using it for anything but company business; it is legal for them to fire you for using it for personal business even if you have ALREADY reimbursed them; and if you knew that you were not supposed to use the card for personal business and did anyway it is unlikely that you would get UI. So the fact that it is technically legal does not provide you with any legal protections.

Any time limit on reimbursements is between you and the company.

The bottom line is it is the employer's decision whether to let you use a busi. (company) card for personal use & also if they do allow it, it is employer's decision as to reimbursement time.
