I am planning to move to Utah but i am only 19. I currently live in alabama. I have been told that in order for me to rent an apartment i have to be 21 or have a 21 yr old or older sign for me. I am wanting to know what the age requirement is to be able to get an apartment on my own. Do i have to be 21 or am i able to do it on my own yet?

In Alabama, you are now old enough to sign contracts.

In Utah, 18 is the age of majority. But I can understand why an apartment management company would want someone a bit older to sign leases.

You might want to contact a few apartment complexes and ask.

I suspect apartment complexes can establish certain criteria to rent to tenants: minimum income, length of time on current job, verifiable rental history, no felony convictions, no registered sexual offenders, are a few that come to mind.

In Utah you reach the age of majority at age 18 or upon high school graduation, whichever is reached first.

Age 18 is the age of majority in Utah. However; as army judge noted, apartment complexes may have their own criteria for renting. Many will rent to a young person with a parent's signature on the lease/rental agreement.
