Vehicle break-in

I live in a secured gated apartment complex in Van Nuys CA. My 2006 f150 was broken into and a $1000.00 navigation system was stolen. It was parked in the secured garage, and locked. What responsibilty does the owner have if any for the theft?

Did he promise it would be completely safe in there?

You can always ask if he'll cover your loss, but don't count on it. And, you can always file a small claims court action , but you really have no grounds ... unless there are some significant details that you left out.

The management cannot guarantee safety. Unless they do make such a promise (which would be foolish) they are not responsible for criminal acts.
