Verbal agreement with landlord.

So my landlord wants to terminate our agreement. She did not want to sign a lease. She did not want to take a security deposit. we agreed to let rent her father's house for one year. They want to terminate the lease at the end of the month. Our agreement was till the end of january. She wants us to vacate by the end of the month. She has not sent written notice. Does the notice go from the end of the month or from when it was written? also the home was carpeted. She mentioned there are wood floors under the carpet. We asked if we could remove the carpet. She agreed. I have witnesses who agree with me. If she wanted to can she hold me responsible for the carpet? She also agreed to let us paint inside.

Without a signed lease she is a tenant at will. This is likely month to month. Now a written notice to vacte will likely be required the time depend son state law
