Here is the situation. I have a one bed room apartment which I was looking for a temporary roommate situation until my boyfriend returned. I found a guy on CL who wanted to rent bi weekly. 200 per two weeks. He came over on Tuesday the 16th of June 2009 to see the place. We talked and I offered to get him set of keys for the place, but then he said he still needed to go to the bank. He said he would come back the next day at 6 or so. I text messaged him to ask if he could be there right at six because I was going some place. He messaged back that he forgot about something and would come by the next day instead at the same time.
This is now Thursday June the 18th. I get a few messages from him saying that he doesn't have all the money, but that he will by friday or maybe not until Monday. He said he would move in on Friday. He said he would come by at the sametime. At this point I started to suspect he wasn't reliable, but at the same time he did say that he was in a tight spot. So I waited until the next day.
He never called at by 6 pm which was gain when he was to show up. I tried to call him at 6 30 pm June 19th and his phone when to voicemail. I text him. 45 minutes later he said he was on his way and he would arrive in twenty minutes.
I was during the next 40 minutes that I found out that my boyfriend would be returning sooner than we expected, and so I tried to call the guy, J (will not put real name) to let him know the bad news. His phone went straight to voicemail. I figured this guy was not going to show up anyway, but I text him because I would have wanted the same information in his place. I text him that I had to decline his stay.
I put on some music and got in the shower at somepoint there after. I got a call from J asking me "what happened." Why did I have to decline him. I explain that my boyfriend would be back in a few days and that I was sorry. He asked if he could stay just for that night for 15 dollars. I told him no. He asked me what he should do and I told him to find a hostel or hotel, but that I could not help him.
He text me later telling me he knew I wasn't a mean person and that he had found a place last minute. I text him back and said that I knew he would. He sent me another message.
Tonight he sent me a series of messages telling me he would take me to court because he had recorded all the conversations we had and had witnesses (no one else was there but us) of a verbal agreement. He also told me I was fat, kept calling me ugly, and that he had me followed to were I work, that he was going to try to get me fired and that he had sent my email to him about the rooming situation to my landlord.
I will be filing a harassment report, but after all this, my question is: If he isn't just harassing me to try to frighten me what is the law going to say about this case?
