I was awarded custodial parentship by default in Illinois at an order of protection hearing because of being unwed. My child's father was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic battery of me. The case has since been settled. He plead down to class a misdemeanor battery.

He wants full custody of our son. He has the money and muscle. I am still in the process of getting on my feet. He says that the court will rule for him because he has the money to play ball. He is very vindictive and controlling. Myself and my child are protected parties on the OP although he has not abused our child.

Anyway, at least 2 members of the father's family will be character witnesses for me and not him to testify what the child's best interest would be.

How much weight could the father's family witnessing for me instead of for him carry in custody proceedings?

Virtually none.

Family members are considered - as a general rule - to be biased witnesses.

Is there a GAL involved?

Really? How would baby's father's family be considered biased if they would be testifying on my behalf? And no GAL is involved because case has yet to go to court.
