Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft What are the chances

So in June I was caught by lp for doing fraudulent returns as well as profiting from our rewards card system. I had admitted to a portion of it because only a portion was true I estimated 1000 they came up with 1600. Police were called I was not arrested I walked out of the store on my own free will and was told I would receive papers for a hearing. Well I did they are trying to charge me with 2 counts of felony theft one for 1130 and one for 513. The one for 513 is impossible truly impossible. Regardless I have court on dec 11th I was told by a few Lawyers during free conusltation that they could not see it staying a felony I am a first offender with no record they also brought up a diversion program. Not sure what that is regardless I cannot afford a lawyer will a public defender be as helpful? Am I in deep? This is in Minnesota

Honestly I dont see how you can get Diversion but if you can thats great. Talking to Lawyers was smart you now have some knowledge when you talk to Public defender. I would also suggest you enroll in an Anti theft course to show Judge your correcting your errors and have remorse. I can recommend such a course offer by NASP.

I'm just wondering why you don't think divesion might be possible? I'm not questioning you just curious as to why? One lawyer had told me in the county next to me he could almost guarantee diversion and he said the max dollar amount is 3000 now I understand all counties are different. But is he feeding me a line?

I have not heard of a felony case getting Diversion even if dropped to misdemeanor. That does not mean its not possible. The Lawyers in your area know your local courts better than I

Thank you . I am hoping most off to have it dropped to a misdemeanor since both jobs I work currently ar with airport security. How often is jail time involved in this type of situation? That scares me the most I am a very civil person hold doors for females and elders do volunteer work I'm just not the type of person who becomes a felon. I made a bad choice and am trying to fix things. Losing that job already put y house In foreclosure and now I am working 76 hours a week to put money aside hold my family over invade I do get jail time

Depends on what they decide t charge you with. I suspect you might lose your security job over this though

You messed up, you stole and now you have to deal with the punishment. In MN $1000 is a felony, getting it dropped to a lesser charge will be tough.

You may lose your job if convicted...how often do you have to get a background check or screened for security clearances?
