Title. I am not familiar with court pleadings at all. That said, what is the difference between pleading guilty & no contest in court???

I ask because I am due in court soon and I've seen comments to plead no contest, so it got me curious as to why, what's the difference?

If you plead guilty you openly admit the charges against you.
A no contest plea is neither a guilty or not guilty plea and proceedings continue with whatever evidence is obtained against you.
In the end, if convicted, they are more or less the same absent the open acknowledgment of guilt or responsibility.

No contest might not be such a good idea.

And, certainly, facing criminal charges without an attorney is just plain stupid.
