I received a pkg stating my formal employer is filing bankruptcy and I don't understand why they sent me some court dates and claim form. Can you help me understand.

That material is in case your former employer owes you money.

If that's not the case, you can ignore those papers.

Or in case the former employer will owe the OP money. If there is any litigation or other action pending that would involve past and present employees, the OP may well want to keep those documents and perhaps consult a bankruptcy attorney to make sure where he/she stands in all this. Just because a person is unaware that they may be owed something doesn't mean he or she is not owed anything. In other words, you want to know whether you may be entitled to part of the bankruptcy proceeds instead of just guessing. There may be something out there that the OP doesn't know about that could entitle the former employee to part of the bankrupt estate.
