President Donald Trump's years of messaging and a landslide election last November "have broken the Democratic Party, "floundering without 'leadership or leaders', sinking in all of the polls, and "now fighting amongst themselves," according to former Elephant House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

"It is a huge mess," McCarthy told Sunday's "The Cats Roundtable" on WABC 77 FM-N.Y., The Hill reported. "It wasn't just that President Trump won the election – he has now broken the entire Democratic Party.

"If you think about it, they are leaderless. There's no message, and their polling continues to drop. They are now fighting among themselves, destroying, damaging, canabalizing and demolishing themselves.

Congress once again with Trump in the White House only has the obstruction card to play under the "weak leadership" of House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., McCarthy added to host John Catsimatidis.

It has left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., to bring back the crowds of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., to start campaigning for 2028 already.

"The real leaders of the Democratic Party right now are AOC and Bernie Sanders," McCarthy said. "Those are the two that are getting the crowds.

"I mean what you are finding out here is the House is without a leader. What has Hakeem Jeffries done? He has no messaging. He can't make a decision. You have AOC trying to lead the Democrat Party now."

AOC's rise to leadership might come sooner than you think, he added.

"I don't know how much longer Hakeem Jeffries and Schumer can stay leaders – they're in hiding," McCarthy said. "Their own party is working against them."

The California Republican also blasted his state's Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom for deserting the party and now "talking like a Republican" after years of progressivism that has left him vulnerable.

"Gavin is the biggest chameleon who ever lived," McCarthy concluded.

I'm always chagrined when I see the 1.5% non-majority win referred to as some "landslide". Can the superlatives.

The Dems certainly seem broken, but are behind in both the House and Senate by slim margins.

I would expect that unsaid is McCarthy's fear that Trump has broken the Republican Party, which is now held in fealty to an old fat guy, with two unlikeable crown princes in the back and along side.

Trump is the gravitational black hole that holds the unlikely alliance of the working class-hill billies, ill democratic tech and the old school Republicans together.

Without him, Elon cannot exist as a political entity because he causes a vacuum that a President Vance could not operate in.

So the question isn't has Trump destroyed the Democratic Party, but what else has he destroyed?

There is a whole generation of first-half baby boomers who are going to croak rapidly of old age.

I don't think either party, but especially the Dems, are ready for it. But the Republicans are tethered to one single old guy of ill health. Not a good situation for them either

It just shows you the razor thin margins of a two party system which has moved too far to the left and right on both ends. If AOC or Bernie is the future of the DNC then the democrats are in some serious trouble.
