Hi,

I am a 25 year old male who just got engaged to my 21 year old female fiancé. She is premed and will enter medical school after we get married. I do not have any debt but she will take out medical school loans during our marriage. Do I need a prenuptial agreement to protect me from her future medical school debt?

Thanks

You'll need to decide if you require a prenup.

That said, a prenup addresses the distribution of assets if a divorce were to occur.

The debt your spouse acquires isn't normally the responsibility of anyone, other than the spouse who acquired the debt.

Such responsibility is determined by your state of residency.
Are Your Responsible For Your Spouse's Debt in Ohio?
Generally, the answer is no. However, there are a few situations where you can be held liable for your spouse's debt, or you will be directly affected by it. When any kind of debt is taken out in just one person's name, it is only that person who is liable for the debt. Creditors will try to convince parents and spouses that they are liable for someone else's debt, but if this happens it is generally a lie and you should contact an attorney about possible actions against the creditor.
