How would my mom, who is my brother's POA, get access to his bank accounts? He had a stroke Thursday and cannot function. What docs does she need? He is the sole owner on his bank accounts. She does have access to his health records.

Many banks won't honor a POA for financial transactions by persons NOT named on the account.

She might ask the bank what is required for a person afflicted with the medical problems your brother recently encountered.

Once she knows, she can act.

Otherwise, some people simply use the person's debit card with their permission.

Don't confuse a DPMA with what your mom might need.

She might eventually need to seek temporary guardianship.

If that's the case, she'll need to discuss it with an attorney.
