I am a Sleep Specialist for a City Hospital. The Sleep Lab is off site from the Hospital. During a shift I had a male pt. (I am a woman) who became very angry that he had to wait to be hooked up for the study. He began yelling and screaming at me and was very intimidating. I remained calm and aplogized for the wait put the patient got even more angry and loud. He did finally decide to leave. I felt very threatened by this pt. We both live in a very small town and his home is right around the corner from me.
The next morning he called my manager and reported me. Of course he was very nice and calm on the phone. This patient now wants to have a meeting with me, him and my supervisor and I don't feel comfortable with this. Can I be fired if I refuse to meet with this patient? I covered all my bases with paperwork and letting my immediate supervisor know what took place. I live in Connecticut. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
