Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft caught shoplifting, no police called, sexual favor..

Gaps in tape recordings have been use to substantiate things, or support things.

In this case, the OP alleges the PERVERT turned off the tape to engage in what he might call an "encounter", but the law might call RAPE!!!!

That could prove to be probative and supportive of the the OP's account.

As a former prosecutor, I would endeavor to use it as supportive of any prosecution.

Don't count out modern science.

I've seen those folks recover things that many discounted.

Obtaining the store's video footage to substantiate that something happened is very different than the OP approaching him with the tape recorder and trying to get him to admit to rape. If it is reported to the police or store, they can request the tapes as part of their investigation. They may or may not be helpful or even exist.

Only an idiot would suggest that ANY victim of ANY crime have any contact with the alleged perpetrator.

A crime victim is ill advised to seek any self help relief.

Only law enforcement personnel should make contact with the perpetrator of any crime.

The suggestion of any gap in the store video footage could be useful is best ascertained by the prosecutor.

The acquisition of any such footage is best left to the legal process.
