In 1998 I co-signed for a loan for my son. He repaid that loan, and in 2003 took out another loan that I did not co-sign. He defaulted on the 2003 loan, and the banker called me and told me I had signed some sort of document which held me responsible for the 2003 loan. I told him that I did not co-sign for the 2003 loan, and that the only loan I had co-signed for was the 1998 loan which had been paid off. I never heard anymore from the banker. Recently, I aquired a copy of my credit report and found that the bank reported that I had not paid off the 2003 loan that my son had defaulted on.
In early January,I sent the banker a letter explaining my discovery, and I requested that he produce, and provide me with a copy of the document that I allegedly signed, making me responsible for the 2003 loan. It is now February 16, 2008, and I have not heard from the banker on this matter. I suspect that the "document" the banker refered to does not exist, or he would produce it. What can I do to remove the false information from my credit report? What can I do to the bank/banker that put this false information in my credit report?
