If the order involved "domestic violence", the underlying charge will never be expunged.
As to the "protection order", that isn't a criminal conviction.
It is, however, an official court order.
As such it can never be hidden.

Whether its called expungement or expunction there's no way erase or remove a criminal conviction.

Expunging a conviction is a clumsy way to try and hide said conviction.
It appears to work, but there are no star chambers in this country.
All proceedings in every court of record in this land are matters of public record.

The only way to erase completely the stain of any conviction is via a full executive pardon.

As with many things in this country, the perception isn't always the projection as in the truth.
