friend owes me money

in may of 2009 i paid for a a trip to florida for 2 friends and I. It came out to $366 per person. One person has paid me back but the other hasn't made any attempts to pay me back and now doesnt return phone calls..yet calls our other friend all the time. He is avoiding me because he owes me this money. I even let him borrow another $240 while down there since his wallet was stolen from the hotel room.

I want to take him to court and sue him for the $600 he owes me. I have 2 friends that witnessed these transactions. The charge on the credit card and the wallet being stolen and me giving him $240 cash.

would I be wasting my time by taking him to court over $600? I want to garnish his check...

Not at all. Take or subpoena your other friends to verify that you loaned the money. The person will probably admit to the money being given but claim it is some sort of gift. A Judge won't buy that. Get your Judgement and then get a garnishment and find a better friend. Sorry this happened to you. Good luck.

i filed my claim in district court on october 20th.....have not received a letter with my trial date and time....does it usually take this long?

and he told a friend out of spite that hes not giving me the money back...wait till he comes to court we will see about that
