Gas Bill.....will they go to court?

Two years ago my parents purchased a house under my name. We never lived in the home. It was fixed and sold for profit a year later (march of 2009). The gas bill was under my name and my idiot parents never paid the bill the entire time we owned the home.

So the gas company sent the bill for $1200 to collections and my Dad has avoided them telling me "the house was sold and they have no personal information like your SS# etc so let it go...they won't find you"...WTF!?

Another friend told me the gas company will hire a lawyer and your $1200 will double because of attorney fees etc....I have checked my credit and it hasnt had any effect...I'm still at 805

I'm highly pissed at my parents for avoiding this thinking nothing is going to happen. It's been a year now and I'm tempted to contact the gas company and pay the bill. My own freakin parents won't take the responsibility of paying the bill. They will continue to "run" until it gets to a serious point. They dont care because it's MY credit that is going to be effected and I'm the one they are/will come after....

So what usually happens in these types of cases? I'm not trying to get sued

The debt is in your name.

The idiots weren't dumb enough to get on the hook.

The idiots sold you for $1200.

Pay the bill, if it worries you.

The idiots don't show any integrity.

Their solution is run like the dickens.

Lesson learned is don't do business with thieves any longer.
