President Donald Trump said Sunday that "I'm not joking" about trying to serve a third term, the clearest indication he is considering ways to breach a constitutional barrier against continuing to lead the country after his second term ends in early 2029.

"There are methods which you could do it," Trump said in a telephone interview with NBC News.

He also said "it is far too early to think about it."

The 22nd Amendment, which was added to the Constitution in 1951 after President Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected four times in a row, says "no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice."

NBC's Kristen Welker asked Trump if one potential avenue to a third term was having Vice President JD Vance run for the top job and "then pass the baton to you."

"Well, that's one," Trump responded. "But there are others too. There are others."

"Can you tell me another?" Welker asked.

"No," Trump replied.

Vance's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.

Trump, who would be 82 at the end of his second term, was asked whether he would want to keep serving in "the toughest job in the country" at that point.

"Well, I like working," the president said.

He suggested Americans would go along with a third term because of his popularity. He claimed to have "the highest poll numbers of any Republican for the last 100 years."

Gallup data shows President George W. Bush reaching a 90% approval rating after the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. His father, President George H.W. Bush, hit 89% following the Gulf War in 1991.

Trump has maxed out at 47% in Gallup data during his second term, despite claiming to be "in the high 70s in many polls, in the real polls."

Trump has mused before about serving longer than two terms before, generally with jokes to friendly audiences.

"Am I allowed to run again?" he said during a House Republican retreat in January.

Not a shocker. And yes, he is cuckoo... That is not a shocker wither. And yet, sadly, so many voted for him.

A good word of caution, which really should not be needed to state as it is common sense... If someone is saying crazy shit while running for office, DON"T VOTE FOR THEM!

Obama already served 2 terms, so he is out also.
You understood what I wrote, yes? IF T***p figures out a way to run for a third term, that opens the door for someone else to do the same (and Obama is the only one who could be considered fit age/health-wise...). You can't have it both ways. Unless, of course, you are intimating that T***p will simply do away with elections between at least two candidates.

It's not going to happen. Neither Trump nor any other living president that served for two terms will get a third no matter what despite all the speculation as to how he could accomplish it. There would have to be a Constitutional amendment to change the 22 Amendment, and that isn't going to happen.
And Trump, or anyone else, can't do away with Constitutionally required elections no matter what the lunatic fringe says.

Twenty-Second Amendment

Twenty-Second Amendment Explained

Section 1

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

Section 2

This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission to the States by the Congress.
So, why is Trump floating the idea? One, it is a distraction that is eating up current news cycles and taking focus away from all the other issues (DOGE, GDP, tariffs, inflation, etc.). And two, it may be a deterrent to those that are thinking about getting into the 2028 race. Trump says that it is too soon to talk about it and that the election is a long way off.

Oh, I understand that it won't happen. AND that it's a distraction from the other sh*t he's up to. Just pointing out that what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

As for deterring others from running? I suspect it will only deter fellow MAGAs

Oh yeah, the VA has already been sending out letters reducing VA disability percentages from 50-20, 60-40, etc. and etc.

This thread is about Trump running for a third term. I guess you didn't bother to read it.

Then those that may have gotten such a notice must have committed fraud. Once a disability is rated it is protected by law.

Protected Ratings

Protection of a Scheduled Disability Rating

Preservation of disability evaluations – the protection of certain long-standing evaluations from reduction – derives from 38 U.S.C. 110 and is implemented in 38 CFR 3.951(b). The regulation provides that a Disability Compensation evaluation of any level that has been continuously in effect for 20 years or more will not be reduced to a lower evaluation except upon a showing that the higher evaluation was based upon fraud.

How Are Ratings for Veterans Disability Compensation Determined?

They are all over reddit, I did not check or ask what they are doing. Most are veterans and are very upset.

and Trump isn't getting a third term, no way no how and if he tried it will not work out for him. More than likely he is deflecting from his terrible Tariff idea.

Provide a link and I'll take a look. What is the reason given for the reduction or didn't they say.

Your can look it up, if you are on reddit under VA stuff. It was medical review some are warrantied some are not based upon a medical review of the individual file. I was more concerned with the extra 50-100 grand my Porsche Targa 4 GTS will cost now and how all the peps are cancelling orders.

I will never own a Porsche I guess unless I get a used one. Oh well.

It's comical how far you are going trying to convince us of your wealth.
I guess you don't know how to post a link.

You mean like making a post about having 3/4 quarter of million dollars in my bank account?

It is out there, I read it plus isn't linking in another social medias forum against this forums rules.

Ok man. You must be on a different wavelength. Nobody asked you to link anything to or about your bank account.
