Back in February, my finace's employer told him that June 1st would be his last day of employment (essentially firing him). He had a non-compete contract but was told by their corporate office on two separate occasions that since they were firing him, it would not be a problem for him to go work across town. He secured employment with a competing company (in the television industry), thus ending his working relationship with the company that fired him. Now his former employer is trying to fight it saying that he has a non-compete contract. When he told the former company that he would be leaving, they told him that he needed to put it in writing thus making it appear that he was quitting. Is there anything that he can say or do within the Indiana law to ensure that he will be able to make a living (which they are trying to prevent) in this new position he has secured?
