If the debt was incurred in a joint fashion,
The IRS can and will come after you if they can't or don't get it from him.
It's not uncommon for them to go after both parties.

A Divorce decree is NOT recognized by the IRS for the purposes of tax liability.
They will tell you you must sue your former spouse to recover anything you pay.
