So my roommate has been smoking weed for sometime now. He always does it when I'm gone and when I come back there is the awful smell that is left behind. I have brought it to his attention now twice and it is still happening. I want to confront the landlord about this, but the landlord is actually his son. If I approach him and send a formal complaint I'm afraid there will be some sort of retaliation from his son or even the landlord himself to protect his son. Am I protected from this? Can I seek more legal action if nothing is done? I don't want to get in trouble for possession of Marijuana when I'm not the one using it or possessing it.

If I recall correctly, Michigan allows the use of medicinal "weed".
If the guy is using the "weed" pursuant to a medical "weed" card, not much legally that anyone can do.

However, if he's not, you can always drop a dime, eat some cheese, snitch the "toker" out to the "popo", "50", the "man", as in the cops.

It's been my experience, that blood is thicker than water, or even money in many cases.

Even if you're protected legally, the landlord can appear to give a feces, act as if he's concerned, warn his pops, and nothing changes.

In the end, I doubt that the landlord's going to evict his father because a stranger complained.

It might be time for you to start looking for an apartment without a roommate, as adult roommate scenarios rarely work as expected.
